Mentally (Ch)ill at The EDIT Festival

We’re a team of improvisors who all have first hand experience with mental illness, and our goal is to allow others into our brains for a night, and facilitate an exchange of ideas and feelings that not all individuals may be aware of. Come equipped with questions on what it’s like to be mentally ill on a daily basis! Spoiler alert: it’s exhausting.

There’s this idea in our culture right now where you’re supposed to put on a happy face, dust yourself off and get right back up again, and never under any circumstances let people see that you’re hurting. We think that’s bullshit. We think that the way humans connect with each other in a meaningful way is by letting our truest selves be seen and heard, and it’s not always going to be pretty, but it is the most courageous way of existing.

People are ashamed and embarrassed to talk about the things that really matter: love, loss, death, grief, feelings of being flawed, never enough, loneliness, etc. Well, not us. We’re going to cover it all.

So buckle up and get ready to laugh, cry, and maybe even feel moderately uncomfortable. Together we are Mentally (Ch)ill and individually we are Joy Carletti, Natalie Grimes, Colleen Murphy, Erin Rafaels, Sean Wissing, and Kat Atwell.

We’re beyond excited to bring to you a night unabashed vulnerability. This show is made possible with support from Growth Counseling Group, Peak Mental Health Services, and The Molecule Effect.

Our all-female cast performs a fun combination of choreographed dances and long-form improv. Each show is inspired by audience experiences with dance: the good, the bad, and the funny. What we lack in technical dance experience, we make up for with heart, enthusiasm, and never-ending jazz hands.

WRITE CLUB DENVER: Flipping the Narrative

And now, for something completely different! This month, we pair with GroupMind Foundation in celebrating women performers! We've got six female-identifying improvisers who are going to answer the age-old question: what happens when you make improvisers plan? And write? Our guess (based on some stellar past performances): AWESOMENESS.

WRITE CLUB Denver is a literary thunderdome like no other. Only the best, bravest, and boldest writers, comedians, and performers compete together in 1-on-1 bouts. The audience's wild applause picks the winner of each round. The winner picks the charity. The loser gets repeatedly rick-rolled.

The Denver Moth: Progress

The Moth StorySLAMs are steadily spreading all over the map, gathering people and stories from all over the country. The Moth is open to anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night's posted theme. The brave of heart, or those with stories they're aching to tell, prepare personal, true tales. When the doors open, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth Hat. A half hour later, names are picked, and one by one, storytellers take the stage. Each person has just five minutes! The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. Each StorySLAM generates a StorySLAM winner. After ten SLAMs, the winners face off in our GrandSLAM Championships. Come sign up to tell a story, or just enjoy the show!

Theme: Progress

Prepare a five-minute story about knowledge. Gleaned from teachers or the streets, lessons learned. From the Ivy League to hard knocks, beauty school to a hospital residency. Hot for teacher, pencils down, wax on, wax off.

SPOKES Denver: A Pop-up Live Comedy and Storytelling Event

Can you spin out a true five-minute story - on the fly - prompted by one sentence or word? Throw out the formulas, the practice, and the prep. We say, “bag of peanuts" and you tell us about that time you accidentally became a pirate. Or a zombie.

Now, you can tell it all LIVE on a stage at our very first SPOKES Denver, a pop-up live comedy and storytelling event where the audience tells the stories, decides the prompts, and chooses the best storytellers

Join us on Thursday, September 20th at our choice venue - the intriguing Invisible City - to experience the fun, live and firsthand. There will be donation-based drinks, a comedy intermission, door giveaways, local Honduran-inspired cuisine by Xatrucho, and more surprises that you don't want to miss. Space is limited, so buy your ticket today.

Spokes Denver is brought to you by House of Pod and hosted by Vanessa Valerio.

Comedy Night at Galvanize

Given the current state of well... many things... we decided we needed a laugh. Galvanize is SO excited to welcome some amazing Denver comics to our Golden Triangle campus to provide a night of hilarity.

A few things to note:
1.) Ticket sales are going to the local chapter of Women Who Code!
2.) Galvanize GT has a great bar, so this won't be some weird dry comedy night (unless its dry humor)
3.) Comedians will be around during the evening to shake hands and kiss babies

WRITE CLUB Denver: Anustart

Save your NYE noisemakers and party hats, gang, because WRITE CLUB is back on January 4 to formally tell the year 2017: "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya."

As we salute the passing year with as many fingers as we deem required, let us look towards 2018 with the same hope and optimism of the doe-eyed, oft-misunderstood Tobias Fünke.

We'll teach 2018 who's boss at WRITE CLUB on Thursday, January 4 at 7:00 PM at Syntax Physic Opera at our next show "ANUSTART." Come cheer on our fearless combatants as they battle one another mercilessly in the name of charity and to win THE LOVING CUP OF DEATHLESS GLORY.

WRITE CLUB Denver is a literary thunderdome like no other. Only the best, bravest, and boldest writers, comedians, and performers compete together in 1-on-1 bouts. The audience's wild applause picks the winner of each round. The winner picks the charity. The loser drinks stale Korbel.
