Good.

You know, I typed the title while not looking at the screen. I meant to type "Food," because I was going to go on a tear about my relationship with it.

But! I wrote good, so let's make this a good post.

“Be gentle first with yourself if you wish to be gentle with others.” -Lama Yeshe

To give credit where credit is due, I found that quote through Tiny Buddha. It is an absolutely incredible site - you should visit it sometime. They didn't even pay me to say that.

I am not so great at being gentle with myself. My friends, they remind me to take note of my own good. Today was a heaping pile of stress, so it's probably for the best that I redirect my attentions to brighter things.

I looked at 155 (they were numbered!) pictures of baby animals online with Lily after work. Every time a member of the primate family popped up, she would squeal, "Baby  monkey!" It was adorable. Even more adorable was the fact that my mom sent it to me with instructions to share it with Lily.

My family came to visit me at lunch, so I got to enjoy their company in the middle of my workday. I especially liked watching Lily line up coasters with intense focus in a coworker's office while visiting her after we ate, telling us about how she attempted to lure a butterfly onto her finger at the pavilion earlier in the morning. She said she'd picked a leaf up off the ground and made sure to gently touch the center of a flower with it to put some pollen on there for the butterflies. Oh, and she touched a starfish, which according to her, feels like a rock.

Today, I noticed that a guy in customer service has Stadtler and Waldorf stuffed animals in his workspace. And then, on Facebook, a friend posted a picture of herself and someone else with the following description: Leah and I being the grumpy old muppets in their theatre box.  Two references in the same day about two of my all-time favorite Muppets? Here's another one, because I like stuff to come in threes:

The commute home from work was a breeze, and the sky was beautiful as the sun was setting. And when I arrived, I walked into the house and saw this enormous flat of strawberries that were the most vivid color of red. I haven't had one yet, but oh, it will happen. Unless Lily inhales all of them before I get a chance.

Email correspondence with old friends is warming my heart on a level you can't even imagine. You know who you are. I love you all so much.

That was worthwhile. And to think, I was going to bitch about food.

Edited to add: I just introduced Lily to the Ministry of Silly Walks. Monty Python wins.

This one's for the ladies.

Be present.
